Alongside Kate Weiner of Loam, Call co-facilitated and organized this project as an experimental container for nourishing creative community in response to the COVID-19 global health pandemic. Over the course of six weeks in early 2021 a collective of interdisciplinary artists gathered together to reflect on everything from growing interdependence, to making art on the cusp of collapse.

Sumbios: A Creative Support Collective to Spark a Culture Shift is a workbook extension of what was learned within the group container. A collaborative project, this publication is designed as a self-guided experience to foster relationships rooted in love for the land and each other based off experiential learnings.

Sumbios [noun] is a term created by Australian environmental philosopher Glenn Albrecht to convey the sociocultural notion of the scientific work symbiosis, a living together. This concept is a foundational framework for contemplating creativity in the face of pandemic, political destabilization, climate chaos, and social justice because it reaffirms our intrinsic interdependence. Art doesn’t exist in isolation; art exists in relationship.
