  • naturally dyed linen

  • embodied practice

Created throughout the duration of a two week residency at The Walkaway House in Massachusetts, Ancestral Tracings was a temporal in-studio installation exploring materiality and methodology. While participating in a year long Irish Spiritual Ancestry course Call began working with plants specific to healing and their Irish lineage. In a process of natural dyeing plants such as nettles, mugwort, lemon balm, and rose were engaged with to create colors. Shapes and patterns were then explored in relation to color. Fiber sketches were developed in response to the local ecology in North Adams, contemplating past and present, ancestral lands and Whiteness on Turtle Island.

Informed by the healing properties of the plants the work is a result of rest. While pausing from psychotherapy work in the pandemic, Call was intrigued by these fiber sketches as a repetitive action to calm and restore their nervous system.
